A singer-songwriter from Co. Clare, P.J. Murrihy has built up a loyal following over the years after he came to national prominence in the late 1980s with a song called ‘Pat Murphy’s Meadow.’ Since then, he has recorded many popular songs, and has also written for the likes of Big Tom, Daniel O’Donnell, Foster and Allen, Brendan Shine and Margo. Other memorable songs recorded by P.J. include; ‘My Father’s House,’ ‘The Old Trashing Mill,’ ‘Should I Fall Behind.’ (duet with Isla Grant) and ‘The Land of the Gael.’
In May 2013 P.J. was honoured to sing his own song composition, ‘The West Clare Famine’ for President Higgins at the National Famine Commemorations. P.J. has been a firm favourite on cruise ship holidays and Irish festivals in Europe and the UK, as well as continuing to draw in the crowds at all popular dancing venues at home in Ireland.
To date songs written by P.J. have been recorded by a number of prominent artists including, Big Tom, Daniel O’ Donnell, Foster and Allen, Michael English, Brendan Shine, Margo, Declan Nerney and Patrick Feeney.
P.J.’s latest album, ‘Childhood Memories’ is a collection of songs both old and new which is quickly proving a firm favourite with audiences nationwide. This concert features the dynamic pairing of P.J. with renowned accordion player, Seamus Shannon from County Roscommon.
