Awards: It was named one of the best films of 2021 by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review, the latter of which also awarded Best Actor to Smith and Best Supporting Actress to Ellis. At the 53rd NAACP Image Awards, the film earned seven nominations, including for Outstanding Motion Picture. The film earned six nominations at the 27th Critics’ Choice Awards (including Best Picture), as well as four nominations at the 79th Golden Globe Awards (including Best Motion Picture – Drama), winning Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for Smith.
