The Year of The Hiker
This is one of John B. Keane’s most poignant plays. Set in the mid 60’s it tells the story of the Hiker Lacey who 20 years earlier left his wife and children to take to the roads. Now he returns on the evening of his daughter’s wedding. What kind of reception will he get. A roller coaster play involving family feuds, love, jealousy, selfishness humour, fear and reconciliation culminating in the reason why the Hiker left in the first place but equally as important why he came back after twenty years .
Hunters Moon Theatre are no strangers to The Carnegie Arts Centre. Last year they performed The works of John B. Keane in 4 excerpts, Big Maggie, Sive, The Field and Year of The Hiker together with a newly written piece by director Philip O Byrne on the life of the Listowel playwright. In previous years they also performed Cash on Delivery at the Carnegie Arts Centre. This performance on Jan 14th will be their final performance before taking it to The Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork.
