Chris Shaw

Chris Shaw is originally from Merseyside, U.K. and studied Fine Art at Liverpool Art College

After gaining his Art Teacher Diploma at Liverpool University, his second level teaching career began and lasted more than twenty years.

Shortly after arriving in Kerry, Chris began working in the Adult Education Centre, Kenmare. Twelve years on, he is still enjoying teaching a variety of courses, from painting to printing, drawing to mixed media.

His recent work is a contrast to the small watercolour landscapes and  nature inspired paintings he produced when he first arrived in Kerry.

'Structured Fragments' by Chris Shaw

An interest in graphic design, printed images, contrast and saturated colour, has led him to produce this series of larger paintings and small collages for his current exhibition at The Carnegie Arts Centre.

Music - ' The Ultimate Celebration of Christie Hennessy' featuring Aonghus McAnally

Friday July 26th 8pm
Tickets: €25

Celebrating Christie Hennessy featuring Aonghus McAnally and his Musicians.

Aonghus McAnally and his musicians will perform new versions of Christie Hennessy’s biggest hits. Don’t Forget Your Shovel, All The Lies That You Told Me, Messenger Boy, Oh Jealous Heart, If You Were To Fall (And I Was To Fall In Love With You), Remember Me and many more.

One of Ireland’s most beloved singer-songwriters, Christie Hennessy delighted audiences at home and abroad until his tragic and untimely death in 2007, aged just 62. In this show, celebrated entertainer Aonghus McAnally brings the Hennessy songbook to life with his uncanny recreation of his close friend Christie’s voice and guitar playing. Featuring all his best loved hits – Messenger Boy, Jealous Heart, Don’t Forget Your Shovel, If You Were To Fall, All The Lies That You Told Me, and the iconic Roll Back The Clouds – this magical evening showcases the storytelling brilliance of Christie Hennessy with 22 of his greatest songs.

Inhabiting the role of Christie is particularly poignant for Aonghus as the two were such close friends – Aonghus even delivered the eulogy at Christie’s funeral. Speaking about the show, Aonghus said, “It’s a genuine privilege to share Christie’s incredible music with audiences around the country, and an honour to be part of keeping his spirit alive. Music fans want one more Christie gig, and to be able to recreate that magic for them is one of the most special feelings I’ve ever had on stage. Having played Christie before, maybe the greatest compliment I’ve ever received as a performer was when Christie’s wife Gill came to me after the show in tears, saying it’s like having Christie back again.”

The show has toured to over 30 venues all over the country including selling out the NCH in Dublin twice in 3 weeks, and the Bord Gais Energy Theatre.

Aonghus McAnally is one of Ireland's best known faces and voices in entertainment. A son of multi-BAFTA winning actor Ray McAnally (The Mission, My Left Foot) and actress Ronnie Masterson ( Angela’s Ashes), it was no surprise that he ventured into show business, starting off in the early 70's with trad rock group Mushroom. For over 30 years he has been a regular face and voice on both television and radio, hosting such well known shows as Anything Goes, The Lyrics Board, Both Sides Now, Late Date, and for the last 5 years has been the Series Producer on Joe Duffy’s Liveline.

Music- Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella Live

Saturday August 3rd
Tickets: €25

KIERAN GOSS AND ANNIE KINSELLA -'Home For The Summer'  Ireland Tour 2019

Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella return to Kenmare with songs from their debut duo album ‘Oh, The Starlings'…... songs, stories and harmonies that transport the listener to another world, this is music from the heart, for the heart… A show to make you laugh and cry… A show to move you with its honest beauty… A show not to be missed.

"Oh, The Starlings, the debut album from Irish duo Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella, is quite simply stunning. Great songs, beautiful harmonies and an artistic triumph that constantly reminds us that less is more.”
Irish Times

"Individually, they are both gifted singers but when they sing together, magic happens… the harmonies, the chemistry… just sublime.”
Time Out Magazine.

Recorded in New York with eight time Grammy winning engineer and mixer Kevin Killen at the helm (David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, U2, Elvis Costello), 'Oh,The Starlings' has been described by songwriter Rodney Crowell as: "So good, it’s heartbreaking... the record itself feels like an old friend.”

Having already won the kinds of reviews that signal their elevation onto the international stage, Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella's 'Oh, The Starlings’ is a work of art with poetry and melody at its heart. While at times reminiscent of the great music of the 70s – Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell or Leonard Cohen – Goss and Kinsella have undeniably succeeded in creating something magnificently, uniquely theirs: an album that is both classic and modern, simple and multi-layered, quiet and dynamic.

Hedy! The Life and Inventions of Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr, glamorous siren of the silver screen, was more than the most beautiful woman in the world. She invented Frequency Hopping and Spread Spectrum Technology that make the world of wireless communication tick. From Austria to Hollywood, WWII, torpedoes, ecstasy, and intrigue to the very cell phone in your pocket, she was there!

HEDY! The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr explores the life, inventions, and person of Hedy Lamarr, Viennese-born Hollywood film star of the 1930s-1950s. Known as The Most Beautiful Woman in the World, Hedy Lamarr stored away knowledge of munitions while married to an Austrian arms dealer, Fritz Mandl. She employed this knowledge to support the US Navy’s war effort during WWII by inventing The Secret Communication System with composer George Antheil, to make torpedoes more accurate. Also referred to as Frequency Hopping or Spread Spectrum Technology, her invention is used today in cell phones, WiFi, CDMA, GPS, Bluetooth and a myriad of other wireless systems.

Having studied Astrophysics with dreams of becoming an astronaut, Heather Massie marries her loves of art and science in the person of Hedy Lamarr. She brings Hedy to life while interacting with the audience, and unearths the truth behind how such a glamorous actress could create an invention which is ubiquitous today. Massie says, “I use the story of the unexpected genius of Hedy Lamarr to inspire the audience to find ways each day to make the world a better place, and to encourage young women in endeavors of science and technology.”

Heather Massie stars as Hedy Lamarr. Director & Artistic Consultation – Blake Walton, Artistic Consultation – Leslie Kincaid Burby, Projections – Jim Marlowe & Charley Marlowe, Sound Design – Jacob Subotnick, Dialects – Page Clements, Technical Assistance – Dan Leary, Photography – Al Foote III, Charley Marlowe & Monica Callan.
