Mr Foot & Wanda's Visit - Two One Act Plays - both directed by Ann Shanahan

Mr. Foot

A stuffy businessman sits with his head in a book, one foot jiggling, while trying to ignore his wife’s “muddles”. But is she muddled or is he missing the dynamic, inquisitive, imaginative character sharing his life. He’s paying no mind to her “antics” but we love her as she puts on a show mainly communicating with the jiggling, “Mr. Foot”

Written by Michael Frayn
Directed by Ann Shanahan
Starring Susan Hennessy and Steve Golding

Wanda's Visit

Jim and Marsha’s dull marriage of thirteen years is given a jolt when Wanda turns up. An outrageous flirt with minimum social sensitivities, she turns the place on its head. Is Jim a bit flattered by the attentions of his old debs date or is he, like Marsha, wondering if this human hurricane will ever blow over.

Written by Christopher Durang, an American playwright
Directed by Ann Shanahan
Starring Jamie L Keough, Geoff Mahony, Niamh Ahern.

Music- Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella Live

Tickets: €25

KIERAN GOSS AND ANNIE KINSELLA -'Home For The Summer'  Ireland Tour 2019

Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella return to Kenmare with songs from their debut duo album ‘Oh, The Starlings'…... songs, stories and harmonies that transport the listener to another world, this is music from the heart, for the heart… A show to make you laugh and cry… A show to move you with its honest beauty… A show not to be missed.

"Oh, The Starlings, the debut album from Irish duo Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella, is quite simply stunning. Great songs, beautiful harmonies and an artistic triumph that constantly reminds us that less is more.”
Irish Times

"Individually, they are both gifted singers but when they sing together, magic happens… the harmonies, the chemistry… just sublime.”
Time Out Magazine.

Recorded in New York with eight time Grammy winning engineer and mixer Kevin Killen at the helm (David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, U2, Elvis Costello), 'Oh,The Starlings' has been described by songwriter Rodney Crowell as: "So good, it’s heartbreaking... the record itself feels like an old friend.”

Having already won the kinds of reviews that signal their elevation onto the international stage, Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella's 'Oh, The Starlings’ is a work of art with poetry and melody at its heart. While at times reminiscent of the great music of the 70s – Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell or Leonard Cohen – Goss and Kinsella have undeniably succeeded in creating something magnificently, uniquely theirs: an album that is both classic and modern, simple and multi-layered, quiet and dynamic.

Drama- Hedy! The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr

Saturday February 9th 8pm
Tickets: €15. Advance Booking advised

Hedy! The Life and Inventions of Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr, glamorous siren of the silver screen, was more than the most beautiful woman in the world. She invented Frequency Hopping and Spread Spectrum Technology that make the world of wireless communication tick. From Austria to Hollywood, WWII, torpedoes, ecstasy, and intrigue to the very cell phone in your pocket, she was there!

HEDY! The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr explores the life, inventions, and person of Hedy Lamarr, Viennese-born Hollywood film star of the 1930s-1950s. Known as The Most Beautiful Woman in the World, Hedy Lamarr stored away knowledge of munitions while married to an Austrian arms dealer, Fritz Mandl. She employed this knowledge to support the US Navy’s war effort during WWII by inventing The Secret Communication System with composer George Antheil, to make torpedoes more accurate. Also referred to as Frequency Hopping or Spread Spectrum Technology, her invention is used today in cell phones, WiFi, CDMA, GPS, Bluetooth and a myriad of other wireless systems.

Having studied Astrophysics with dreams of becoming an astronaut, Heather Massie marries her loves of art and science in the person of Hedy Lamarr. She brings Hedy to life while interacting with the audience, and unearths the truth behind how such a glamorous actress could create an invention which is ubiquitous today. Massie says, “I use the story of the unexpected genius of Hedy Lamarr to inspire the audience to find ways each day to make the world a better place, and to encourage young women in endeavors of science and technology.”

Heather Massie stars as Hedy Lamarr. Director & Artistic Consultation – Blake Walton, Artistic Consultation – Leslie Kincaid Burby, Projections – Jim Marlowe & Charley Marlowe, Sound Design – Jacob Subotnick, Dialects – Page Clements, Technical Assistance – Dan Leary, Photography – Al Foote III, Charley Marlowe & Monica Callan.
