'The Quiet Land' - Winner - Best One Act Play- Amateur Drama All- Ireland 2017

'The Quiet Land' by Malachy McKenna is a celebration of humour, resilience and endearing innocence of an exiled generation as it struggles to survive in the isolated rural Ireland of today. A conversation between two elderly farmers on a remote hillside, gentlemen of heart, humour and hardness. It is McKenna's heartfelt tribute to a rare breed of forgotten men who live a long way in off the road.

Cast:Eamon McConnell: Liam Howard. Nashee Finn: Sean Ahern

Directed by Danny Buckley. Lighting & sound: Aishling McGrath

LIAM HOWARD founded The Palace Players in 1988. As the group’s director/producer, he brought the group All-Ireland success with ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’ in 1993 in the confined section of the All-Ireland Drama circuit in Enniscorthy. In 2017, he directed ‘Conversations On A Homecoming’ securing the group’s first All-Ireland win in the RTE All-Ireland full-length Open Finals in Athlone. As well as directing, he is an accomplished actor and last December, was in the winners’ enclosure in the All-Ireland one-act finals in Letterkenny when he played the part of Eamonn in ‘The Quiet Land’.

SEAN AHERN has been a stalwart of The Palace Players for many years, winning many accolades and awards along the way. He has also played with Ballyduff Drama Group, Fermoy Choral Society, Lisgoold Drama Group and Brideview Players Tallow, winning an All-Ireland ‘best supporting actor’ award with the latter in Athlone earlier this year, for his role as Mick, the detective, in ‘Stolen Child’ by Barber Ni Chaoimh and Yvonne Quinn. In December 2017, he played the part on Nashee in the group's All-Ireland winner ‘The Quiet Land’ in the one-act finals in Letterkenny.

Danny is passionate about his Drama and all aspects of stage. An All Ireland winning actor and director, Danny received his Fellowship from Victoria College of Music and Dramatic Art in London, FVCM(acting). He teaches Drama at Centre Stage School in his native Mallow. The pinnacle of his acting achievements was being part of the RTÉ All Ireland  winning cast of 'Conversations on a Homecoming" with Palace Players in 2015. He reached further success with Palace as director of ‘The Quiet Land’ winning the All Ireland One Act Finals in Letterkenny last December.
