This March will see the return of the Carnegie Players to our stage. One of John B. Keane’s plays “The Chastitute” will open on Friday 10th March and run for four nights until Monday 13th March. Show begins at 8pm, with a gala opening night from 7:30pm on Friday 10th.
“The Chastitute” is filled with humour but tainted with sadness for a lonely man’s valiant efforts to find love and companionship. The ensemble cast, led by David Dwyer as John Bosco McLaine himself, is a mixture of faces new and old. The production is directed by Julia O'Connor.

"The Chastitute"

by John B. Keane

This March the curtain will rise on the Carnegie Players Production of John B. Keane’s

“The Chastitute” at Carnegie Arts Centre.

“A Chastitute is a person without holy orders who has never lain down with a woman... a rustic celibate by force of circumstance. “

John Bosco McLaine is a middle aged bachelor farmer living in rural Ireland in the 1980s... a time in Ireland where society is changing rapidly. He has been consigned to a life of celibacy by a combination of religiously inspired sexual guilt, social ineptitude and plain bad luck. In this play we see John replay his endeavours with the opposite sex. These include recent encounters where he struggles to cope in the new era of discos and bars where the modern women “burn up vodka and gin as if they had jet engines inside them”. This play is filled with humour but tainted with sadness for a lonely man’s valiant efforts to find love and companionship.

All profits from these productions go to meet the running costs of

The Carnegie Arts Centre.
